Antonio Valencia Jersey

Antonio Valencia Jersey

Manchester United star Antonio Valencia has opened up on how he first came to the club, stating he couldn’t believe there was genuine interest in him.

The Ecuadorian was signed from then Premier League side Wigan and immediately impressed, forming an almost telepathic relationship with Wayne Rooney.

Back then Valencia was a winger but has managed to stay at United for so long by transforming himself into a full-back who was labeled the best in the league by Jose Mourinho.

The defender is one of the few remaining players from Sir Alex Ferguson’s era, especially with Michael Carrick retiring and so Porto’s Diogo Dalot has been brought in this summer.

Reflecting on how he first came to Old Trafford back in 2009, the former Villareal man explains how he was stunned to learn of the Red Devils’ interest.

According to the club’s official website, Antonio said: “I was on holiday when I heard that United were interested in me. My agent told me we had to travel over here because they wanted to speak with me and I couldn’t believe it.

“I can remember calling my mum and dad, we had a chat and they were delighted. They are moments that you are never going to forget. I think that as a young lad, I was so keen and so excited to play for the club, I didn’t even look at the figures or anything.

“The only thing I wanted to do was put on the United shirt and play for the team, so the negotiations did not last very long. I remember being in Ecuador and being really nervous.

“It was Manchester, and I had to make sure I was good enough to be at United. I had to make sure I was fit and well prepared. When I arrived I was nervous, but I was with friends who loved me and rated my ability, and who told me to relax and that everything would turn out well.”

Before turning himself into a full-back Valencia’s career at Manchester United certainly looked at threat since he was hardly getting any game time.

Though he undoubtedly still had the place necessary to play as a winger, he looked a shadow of himself as the club’s style of football changed.

Perhaps more was required of a winger in modern football than what Antonio could offer but he’s since adapted to a capable right-back.

Anthony Martial Jersey

A lot of rumours swimming around in the media today.

Angel Gomes Jersey

Michael Carrick will permanently join Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff next season.

Michael Carrick admits he has been impressed with Angel Gomes and Tatith Chong and has described the young Manchester United duo as ‘real talent’.

Gomes is considered one of United’s top academy prospects and was given his senior debut in United’s final Premier League game last season.

The 17-year-old also impressed in his only appearance for Mourinho’s side this season – the 4-0 win over Yeovil Town in the FA Cup in January.

Chong, meanwhile, has not made his senior debut but the 18-year-old has regularly impressed at Under-23 level and has trained with United’s first team on occasions.

Carrick will be part of Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff next season once he calls time on his playing career at the end of this campaign, and the midfielder is relishing the prospect of helping United’s young stars.

‘I look at the crop of good young lads here, real, real talent: Marcus [Rashford], Luke [Shaw], Jesse [Lingard], Anthony [Martial], Rom [Lukaku], Angel [Gomes], young Chong [Tahith Chong],’ Carrick told The Times.

Angel Gomes has already made his breakthrough at Manchester United.

Tahith Chong has impressed at Under-23 level.

Andreas Pereira has posted a photo himself back in training on loan at Valencia after recovering from a thigh injury sustained against Barcelona last month.

The Brazilian, following an impressive loan spell with Granada last season, joined up with Los Che in September against his manager’s wishes on a season long deal.

And he has enjoyed another positive spell in Spain, making 21 appearances in total before a nasty tackle from Sergi Roberto at the Nou Camp last month left him on the sidelines.

But the 22-year-old is back in training ahead of Valencia’s clash with Real Betis on Sunday and has posted a picture of himself working hard.

Pereira has demonstrated during his time in Spain a capacity to perform at a high level on a week in, week out basis, but whether that will merit a place in Mourinho’s side in turn is another question entirely.

During pre-season the 55-year-old used Pereira as a midfielder, playing on the right hand side of a midfield trio with Paul Pogba alongside him, and with time this could prove to be a vocation that suits the Brazilian down to a tee.

But as Mourinho notably mentioned earlier this season, Pereira simply hasn’t played there at the Mestalla, featuring out wide on a rotational basis instead.

Needless to say, the chances of the youngster successfully competing for a spot out wide next season are slim, adding greater uncertainty to the future of a player many want to see given a run of games in the starting XI.

Ander Herrera Jersey

Ander Herrera may stand trial over a contentious match back in 2011.

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera could be set for a court appearance after a long-running match-fixing scandal took a fresh twist.

Herrera played for Real Zaragoza in a match against Levante back in 2011, which has been the subject of an extensive and long-running investigation by Spanish authorities.

The game ended in a 2-1 win for relegation threatened Zaragoza, keeping them in La Liga and condemning Deportivo La Coruna to relegation.

Prosecutors in Spain are investigating whether some of the Zaragoza players were party to a deal which allegedly saw cash payments made to Levante players in return for a favourable result.

Numerous players, as well as coaching staff at sporting directors of the two clubs could be called to explain why they received two large payments – reported to be £44,000 and £35,000 in Herrera’s case – which he is then said to have immediately paid back to the club.

The allegations suggest that the returned cash was then handed over to Levante players, with Herrera issuing a statement reaffirming his stance that he had no involvement in any wrongdoing.

“As I stated back in 2014 when this issue was raised, I have never had and never will have anything to do with to do with manipulating match results,” his statement read.

“If I am ever called to testify in a judicial hearing, I will be delighted to attend as my conscience is totally clear. I love football and I believe in fair play, both on and off the pitch.”

A spokesman for Deportivo confirmed that the case had now been re-opened after initially being shelved, saying the fresh twist in the case was as a result of an appeal by the club.

Herrera’s immediate availability for United will not be affected by the ruling, but he may have questions to answer later this year if a court date is confirmed.
